Ir. Dr. J.J. Chew is the Deputy Head of School for the School of Engineering and Science and contributes to the Chemical Engineering program in Swinburne Sarawak. She is a Curtin University of Technology graduate with a PhD from Monash University in oil palm biomass conversion to solid biofuel via torrefaction. Her main research interest includes biomass utilisation for biofuel and bioenergy and waste valorisation.
J.J. has been an active member of Swinburne Sarawak Research Centre for Sustainable Technologies, leading projects related to sustainable energy, environment, and materials. She supervises and co-supervises 7 Ph.D. and Masters (Research) candidates and graduated 4 Ph.D. and Master students in the past 5 years.
J.J. has over three years of experience working as a process engineer. Leveraging her process engineering experience, J.J. is also actively involved in industry projects related to material characterisation and process improvement. Her research contributions have resulted in her being awarded the Young Woman Researcher in Biofuel and Bioenergy under Venus International Foundation in 2023.
J.J. is a registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia, and maintains registration on the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Engineer (APEC Engineer) Register and International Professional Engineers (IntPE) Register, Australia.
She is also currently serving as the Treasurer of the IChemE Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group (POPSIG) since 2021 and as the Publicity and Communications Chair of Engineers Australia Malaysia Chapter (EAMC) as part of her community services.
