Study at Swinburne Sarawak with fees as low as IPTA fees through BP40

KUCHING – Through the Yayasan Sarawak BP40 Bursary Scheme, Sarawakian Bumiputera students can attain a world-class Australian education at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, with tuition fees as low as those at public universities (IPTA) in Malaysia.

Eligible Sarawakian Bumiputera students can enrol into their preferred programmes at foundation, diploma or degree levels with subsidised tuition fees through this special bursary scheme offered by Swinburne Sarawak in collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak. The scheme, which aims to ease the financial burden of students from low (B40) and middle income (M40) family backgrounds, is limited to 100 students a year.

Moreover, once students have successfully obtained the BP40 bursary, they will have the option of applying for a Yayasan Sarawak study loan to cover their remaining fees. On top of this study loan, students will be entitled to an annual living allowance of RM4,000 for the duration of their studies. Upon graduation, students could get up to 75% tuition fee rebate.

Students who receive support via the Yayasan Sarawak BP40 Bursary Scheme can worry less about financial concerns and instead focus on what is truly important – pursuing their tertiary education, immersing themselves in the vibrant student experience, and enjoying the exciting campus life right here at Swinburne Sarawak.

“The Swinburne University we know is a world-class university in Borneo. With the lower cost of studying locally now, we need not send our children to Australia to attain an international education,” said Yayasan Sarawak Director Tuan Haji Mersal bin Abang Rosli.

“The BP40 Bursary Scheme was designed to aid in the imbalance of Bumiputera students at Swinburne and other private universities owned by Yayasan Sarawak. Hence, in the last year, the BP40 bursary was designed as a form of assistance to Bumiputera students, where they only need to pay the same tuition fees or lower than public universities.

“In addition, Yayasan Sarawak provides scholarships, loans and other forms of aids needed for students to further their studies at Swinburne or other private universities. With this, it is our vision to attract more Bumiputera students to further their studies at this world-class university,” he said.

Swinburne Sarawak is also offering the English Enhancement Program (EEP), which is fully sponsored by Yayasan Sarawak. This special four-week programme is designed to develop students’ English language proficiency in preparation of enrolling into a foundation, diploma or undergraduate programme at Swinburne Sarawak.

Aside from paying zero tuition fees for the EEP, students will be provided a one-off RM1,000 relocation assistance, pocket money and accommodation. On top of this, they are guaranteed a scholarship or financial loan from Yayasan Sarawak to further their studies. During the programme, students will also get the chance to discover all the opportunities that university life has to offer – not only on campus but also throughout the community from social engagement, networking and adventure.

For further information, students can make an appointment for on-campus face-to-face education counselling from Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm. On top of these existing weekday counselling hours, Swinburne Sarawak will be holding extended counselling hours over the weekends from 10am to 4pm on campus from 19 June to 10 July.
