Scholarships
Scholarships offered by Swinburne
Swinburne Sarawak offers full scholarships and tuition bursaries to outstanding and deserving students. Students can apply for scholarships by completing the studentship and fee waiver application form and enclosing all supporting documents.
To be eligible for scholarships students will be assessed on:
- Academic performance
- Relevant research and work experience
- Research publications or creative works
- Alignment with the University's Key Research Areas
The University will continue monitoring students’ eligibility for the financial support schemes. Continuation of the scholarship is dependent on the student maintaining satisfactory progress.
Swinburne Tuition Fee Award
The Swinburne Tuition Fee Award is a merit based award, offering full or partial (30 - 100%) tuition fee waivers for PhD or Master by Research candidates.
The Swinburne Tuition Fee Award is granted for 3 years to PhD candidates and for 18 months to Master by Research candidates.
Applications are open year round. Students should submit their application form and supporting documents to the School of Research at the same time they apply for admission to a research degree.
Recipients of this Fee Waiver Award will be required to contribute a stipulated number of contact hours per week towards their faculty's teaching and research activities.

Swinburne Research Studentship
Applications for Swinburne Research Studentships are open to PhD and Master by Research candidates. The Studentships provide successful applicants with a full tuition fee waiver, plus a monthly stipend.
The Swinburne Research Studentship is granted for 36 months to PhD candidates and for 18 months to Master by Research candidates.
Applications are open year round. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, which are held at least twice per year. These can be conducted face-to-face, or by Skype.
Students should submit their application form and supporting documents to the School of Research at the same time they apply for admission to a research degree.
Recipients of this scholarship will be required to contribute a stipulated number of contact hours per week towards their faculty's teaching and research activities.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Travel Award
Swinburne Sarawak provides opportunities for its students to gain international research experience through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Travel Award. This award is a travel bursary of RM30,000 for research students to visit or study in an international university or research institution for a period of time during their candidature.
Criteria:
- Students must be enrolled in a full-time postgraduate research program.
- Students should have an associate supervisor from the prospective university and an invitation or acceptance letter from the receiving research institution.
- The prospective university has to be in the top 400 globally ranked universities according to the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) list. Research Institutions that have an equivalent international research integrity would be considered.
- The award will be granted subject to satisfactory progress of candidature.

The MARii - Swinburne Transport Innovation Research Scholarship
The MARii - Swinburne Transport Innovation Research Scholarship program, in collaboration with the Malaysia Automotive Robotics & IOT Institute (MARii), supports researchers in finding novel solutions for challenges in the transport and automotive manufacturing industry. This scholarship program will facilitate the research and development of new and innovative technologies in automotive, energy storage, policies and personal mobility products.
We are seeking Master by Research candidates with engineering (robotics, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, material), information technology and computing backgrounds to join us. Candidates under the scholarship program will be supervised by academics from both Sarawak (Malaysia) and Hawthorn (Australia) campuses.

Yayasan Biasiswa Sarawak Tunku Abdul Rahman
Please inquire with the Sarawak Foundation about the subject areas being sponsored. The application has to be made through the Sarawak Foundation and opens in August 2018.
Yayasan Biasiswa Sarawak Tun Taib
This is a full scholarship for Master and PhD and open for Sarawakians only. It is for outstanding students in areas of science and the digital sphere and the full list can be found on the foundation's website. Applications for this scholarship can be made once you have received your offer letter and the School of Research will assist you in your application.
