2nd Swinburne Sarawak Postgraduate Research Conference (SSPRC)

2nd SSPRC 2021 Summary

The 2^nd Swinburne Sarawak Postgraduate Research Conference was held on 12 and 13 August 2021 via Microsoft Teams with 150 participants. All Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students, along with the academic staff, were invited. This event carried a two-fold purpose: to provide a platform for HDR students to showcase the impact of their research as well as to learn from and interact with peers and academics. In their opening, Ir. Professor Lau Hieng Ho and Professor Ida Fatimawati highlighted the importance of empowering the researchers to work in new ways to fit the purpose in a digital future.

Four invited keynote speakers - that is, Professor Steven Langford, Ts. Dr Peter Morin Nissom, Professor Georgina Kelly, and Professor Jugdutt (Jack) Singh gave complementary talks, focusing on delivering sustainable research through digital transformation. 13 parallel sessions were conducted successfully with almost perfect attendance. The winners of the best paper and poster awards, together with those granted highly commended mention in these two categories, were announced at the end of the conference.

The organising committee is pleased to announce the 2^nd SSPRC Technical Programme (see attachment for the complete conference programme and virtual links). Among the activities during this conference will be Keynote Speeches and the Best Paper and Best Poster Awards.

The conference will feature keynote speeches focusing on delivering sustainable research through digital transformation, especially during the pandemic. Besides that, the conference will also feature 78 paper and poster presentations from our Higher Degree Research (HDR) students. SSPRC is not only beneficial to postgraduate researchers but also our early career researchers and academics in general.

The 2-day conference is an excellent opportunity for the postgraduates to:

• present a poster or a full paper,
• develop a manuscript based on the full paper, which can later submit to a journal of their choice,
• learn from other presenters’ good practices,
• network and learn what other HDR students are doing
