The Director of Swinburne's Centre for Sustainable Technologies, Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dominic Ong has been elected as a council member of the Association of Geotechnical Societies of South East Asia (AGSSEA). This follows his recent election as Secretary General of the Malaysian Geotechnical Society (MGS) for the 2017 - 2018 session.
With his appointment as Secretary General of the MGS, Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dominic Ong is now one of the two council members to represent Malaysia in AGSSEA. His election to the council also enables Swinburne Sarawak to further promote closer cooperation among the member societies for the advancement of knowledge in geotechnical engineering in the region.
According to the statutes of AGSSEA, its member societies has the absolute right to change their representatives in the association provided that the Hon. Secretary-General is notified in writing. The Hon. Secretary-General of AGSSEA, Ir. Kenny Yee had this to say:
"On behalf of the AGSSEA Council, I would like to extend our warmest welcome to Assoc. Prof. Dominic Ong to our committee and we welcome back Ir. Yee Yew Weng as our council member. I strongly believe that the MGS under the new leadership will further promote closer cooperation among the member societies for the advancement of knowledge in geotechnical engineering in this region."
The MGS aims to promote the theory and good practice of geotechnical engineering and to foster the involvement of its members in national as well as international activities.
