  • Opening hours are subject to change.
  • Most library services cease 15 minutes before closing time.
  • Users can access 24-hour areas using their Swinburne ID card after library operating hours.

People are being noisy in the library, what should i do?

  • Feel free to respectfully let the person(s) know they are disturbing others.
  • Alternatively, notify us the location through Zendesk Online Chat or approach library staff at the Service Desk. We will respond immediately.

Am I allowed to eat in the library?

  • No. Food not allowed in the library. Only bottled drinks allowed.

How can I reserve a study group room?

Discussion Room Booking

The booking steps are as below:

  • Log in to myvenuehub.skedda.com.
  • In the location drop down list, select Library discussion rooms.
  • Choose the room you want to book (green colour indicates that the room is available).
  • Click any of the available time slots.
  • Set the date & time (maximum is 2 hours per booking).
  • Under Attendee Counts, key in total users.
  • Under I acknowledge that this booking request is unconfirmed, click Unconfirmed.
  • Click I have read the conditions of use and understood them.
  • Click Confirm Booking.

Conditions of use

  • Minimum 3 users.
  • Users who did not check-in via SKEDDA or left room unattended for 15 minutes would have their booking terminated.
  • Please keep the noise level in the discussion rooms at a reasonable level. Rooms are not soundproof.
  • Keep it neat and orderly.
  • No moving furniture into or out of the discussion rooms.
  • Do not leave your belongings unattended.
  • Any personal injury, damage or loss of user’s personal belongings should not be the responsibility of the library.
  • Offenders will be asked to leave the library.

Swinburne Sarawak Library shall not be responsible for any personal injury, damage, or loss of personal items of library users.

Is colour printing available? Any charges for printing?

There are instructions beside every printer and copier at the library.  Fees and charges apply. If you need help, ask at the library service desk. 

Copy card

  • Use your Swinburne ID card as a copy card.
  • Cards are issued with 0 credits.
  • Minimum top-up is RM 10.00 each time.

Printing

  • Select print on your document as usual.
  • Take your Swinburne ID card to the printer workstation.
  • Swipe your Swinburne ID card to the card reader attached to the printer.
  • Select the document(s) on the screen and click print.

Scanning

  • Scanning is free and is available at Library IT Section.
  • Scanned documents may be in PDF or JPG format and sent to single or multiple email addresses.
  • The maximum scanner resolution is 1200 dpi. The default resolution is set to 300 dpi.

Wireless printing

  • Wireless printing is available within the campus.
  • Wireless software must be installed on your computer to use this function.

Can desks be reserved in the library?

Leaving personal belongings unattended on desks or chairs to reserve a study space is not permitted.

How to borrow

  • You must present your Swinburne ID card to borrow.
  • To borrow books, go to a self-check machine.

How to avoid fines

  • Renew items on or before the due date online or via library mobile app.
  • Check your account regularly.
  • Never lend your student ID card to anyone or borrow on someone else’s behalf. All fees associated with things borrowed on your account are your responsibility.
  • Report lost ID cards to the library immediately.

Making Payments

You can pay fines in person or send us an email for more information:

  • Counter — you can make payment via e-wallet by scanning the QR Codes available at the counter
  • Email –  library@swinburne.edu.my for payments and Library will provide the QR code.

Lost Items

  • You are required to pay a replacement cost for damage or lost items plus an administration fee of RM20.00, failing which, borrowing privileges will be suspended, testamur will be withheld etc.
  • The replacement cost for lost/damaged item based on the current price if the item is still in print, or the average price for the subject area if the item is no longer available.
  • You can replace the item with a new copy or the new edition of the book.
  • You cannot borrow or renew until outstanding charges are paid or the item is replaced.

How to renew

  • Log in to  My Account to renew your loans, check your current loans and fines.
  • You can also renew your loans through Swinburne Sarawak Library mobile app. Download our app directly from the App Store or  Google Play by searching for “Swinburne Sarawak Library”.
  • Renew in person at library service desk, by phone during opening hours (+6082 260 936) or email to library@swinburne.edu.my.
  • You can renew an item any time before it is due. The renewal will be for the standard renewal period. 
  • There is no renewal for short term items or counter-reserved loans.
  • You will not be able to renew an item if you have any overdue loans, unpaid fines, someone has placed a hold on your item or if your library membership has expired.

  • Return your items to the service desk at the library.

 

Can I renew a loan?

Yes, an item can be renewed before the due date.
Items cannot be renewed if there are any overdue loans, unpaid fines or Library membership has expired.

How do I pay fines?

You can make payments at the Library Service Desk using e-Wallet (Sarawak Pay or Boost) in person or by representative.
Alternatively, you may request QR Code for e-Wallet payment through email library@swinburne.edu.my.

What happens if I can’t pay my fines?

Your account will be blocked until all fines are paid.

The book I need is not held in the library. How can I get a copy?

Inter-Library loan is a service to get you the materials that is not held in Swinburne Library collection: books, journals, articles, etc. To place a request, fill in the Inter-Library e-Form .
When items arrive and become available, you will be notified via email. Bring your Swinburne ID card to collect it. Most requests are supplied within one week; but may vary depending on the supplying library.

I’m not sure how to search for library e-resources effectively, how do I find them?

EDS search engine provides access to all library online resources and library material in one search. Log on to “Help” page and watch tutorial videos for more guides and tips.

I need help in referencing, where can I go?
