History of Swinburne
Established in 1908, Swinburne has grown from being a local Melbourne provider of technical education into a multi-sectoral, multi-discipline and multi-campus provider of vocational and higher education and training of national and international significance.
Swinburne has a total student population of over 45,000. There are approximately 2,000 international students at Swinburne from 50 different countries around the world.
Swinburne is one of the few universities in Australia to offer a full range of programmes from apprenticeships to PhDs, giving students the added flexibility of "pathways" between the Technical and Further Education (TAFE) and Higher Education sectors.
The University is highly regarded for delivering programmes in engineering, information technology, business, design, social and behavioural sciences, biophysical sciences and mathematical sciences. Swinburne has become identified as an innovative university, which is forging new initiatives in research, greater alliances with industry and creating an international presence as a quality educational provider and industry consultant. The most recent Good Universities Guide in Australia shows that Swinburne is among the most difficult to get into of all Australian universities.
Besides Swinburne Sarawak, the University has six campuses in Melbourne namely, Hawthorn, Prahran, Lilydale, Wantirna, Croydon and Healesville.
