KUCHING – The Chief Minister of Sarawak Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud declared open the ASEAN Australian Engineering Congress at a leading hotel here, on Monday (25 July, 2011).
Themed ‘Engineering for sustainability’, the three-day event which starts from 25 to 27 July, is jointly organised by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and Engineers Australia Malaysia Chapter, supported by Sarawak Development Institute.
About 250 participants from 16 countries are attending the conference, which aims to provide a forum to share ideas promote awareness, facilitate collaboration and make recommendations for a sustainable future.
Innovative engineering projects and potential solutions will be presented in the form of technical presentations to encourage constructive discussions as well as to provide an opportunity to network for university lecturers, students, staff of government agencies and practicing consulting engineers.
An outstanding team of international and local speakers will present solutions to some of the most pressing problems.
The conference will focus on six themes which will be presented by reputable speakers:
- Planning and policy
- Climate change
- Sustainable buildings and infrastructures
- Green technology
- Sustainable waste and water management
- Community and the environment
Part of the congress will include a campus tour of Swinburne Sarawak Campus, particularly its science and engineering facilities, on 27 July.
