KUCHING – Swinburne, a reputable Australian university with campuses across Melbourne and Kuching, will be holding its Open Day event on 15 December at the Kuching campus, Jalan Simpang Tiga, from 10am to 5pm.
The event is open to members of the public. SPM, STPM and UEC school-leavers who are looking to pursue an Australian tertiary education locally at an affordable price are highly encouraged to attend this one-day event. Those who are interested to know about Swinburne’s postgraduate programmes are also invited to attend.
Application is now open for enrolment into 2019 intakes at Swinburne. Classes will commence on 7 January (Summer Term, foundation and degree), 4 March (degree and postgraduate) and 8 April (foundation).
The Open Day event is an opportunity not to be missed for prospective students to meet and talk to the university’s Faculty members and course counsellors about its course offerings. The staff will be on hand to guide the students and their parents on the course options available in areas such as business, science, design, engineering, information technology and multimedia.
Furthermore, students can do free on-the-spot application, career and personality test, and get advice related to scholarships and financial aids. On top of that, there are also guided tour of the campus, photo booth and games where guests stand a chance to win exciting prizes.
For on-the-spot application purposes, prospective students are advised to bring along their identification card and birth certificate (Malaysian students) or original passport (international students), original academic transcripts with grading system (SPM/GCE O-Level/UEC/STPM/GCE A-Level/Diploma or equivalent qualification), and original English language proficiency test results (MUET, IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent qualification). Those who meet the entry criteria will receive an offer letter on the same day from the university.
Where internal scholarships and bursaries are concerned, Swinburne offers competitive options to ease students’ financial burden. Among those being offered are the Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Scholarship, Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Awards, Academic Progression Scholarship, Emerging Technology Award, Dean’s Outstanding Youth Award, Siblings Rebate, Bumiputera Financial Scheme as well as Postgraduate by Coursework Award.
External scholarships and financial aids from other organisations are also available. Representatives from Yayasan Sarawak, PTPTN and Employees Provident Fund (EPF) are expected to join the event to provide relevant information and advice to students and their parents.
Swinburne offers excellent choices for students to earn an international degree no matter which campus they choose. The Kuching campus offers courses at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels where all courses taught are identical to those at the Melbourne campus.
As a result, graduates at the Kuching campus are awarded the same Australian qualification that allows for broader recognition and better employment opportunities around the world. Its overall Graduate Employability Rate is approximately 92% where graduates are hired within six months after completing their studies.
In the recently published Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 by Subject, Swinburne ranks highly in various disciplines. Its Engineering and Technology subject is ranked in the Top 250, Computer Science and Arts and Humanities subjects in the Top 400, and Business and Economics in the Top 500 in the world.
The rankings are based on core missions such as quality of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
