KUCHING – Datu Dr Haji Julaihi Haji Bujang, the Director of the Government and External Liaison Unit at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, was recently presented with the “Tokoh Kepimpinan Pendidikan Sarawak 2016” (Sarawak Education Leadership Award 2016).
The award was presented by the Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg at the state-level Teacher’s Day celebration at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) in Kota Samarahan, near Kuching.
Johari officiated at the event on behalf of the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem.
Datu Dr Julaihi has a long association with education. He served as Director of Education at the Sarawak Education Department from 2007 to 2010.
Prior to heading the department, he was the deputy director from 2006 to 2007.
Before joining Swinburne Sarawak in February 2012, he was Director of the Curriculum Development Division, Ministry of Education, in Putrajaya.
At Swinburne Sarawak, he continues to play a significant role in the university’s collaboration with, among others, private organisations, government departments and agencies, as well as schools to promote higher education.
From Miri, Datu Dr Julaihi has been awarded for his contribution on numerous occasions. In 2014 he was among 335 individuals awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal by the Sarawak government. The award acknowledges their contribution to the state’s economic, social and political development from various sectors, such as public service, sports, arts and culture.
Datu Dr Julaihi was also a recipient of the Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (Service Excellence Award) in 1990, 2002 and 2005.
Datu Dr Julaihi obtained his doctorate from Monash University, Australia in 1999, Masters in Education from Bristol University, UK, and bachelor’s degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
