Swinburne researchers are among Australia’s top achievers highlighted in The Australian’s 2020 Research magazine.

The magazine lists top researchers and research institutions in 255 academic fields.

Research superstar

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Quality) Professor Qing-Long Han is honoured among Australia’s top 40 researchers, measured by their career performance. Professor Han is recognised as a Lifetime Achiever in Automation and Control Theory. He researches power system stability and control, and wireless communication.

Top research institution

Additionally, Swinburne is named as the top research institution in Australia in Automation and Control Theory, having the most citations in the top 20 journals in the field in the last five years.

Top researchers

Four Swinburne researchers were acknowledged for their contribution to their individual fields. These researchers have the highest number of citations from papers published in the last five years in the 20 top journals in their field:

“It’s fantastic to see these key members of our Swinburne team being recognised for their world leading research.  Our deep research expertise in automation and control theory, photonics, mathematics and computer science is the fuel that powers our Industry 4.0 capabilities,” says Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) Professor Bronwyn Fox.

Xingyuan (Mike) Xu, who completed his PhD at Swinburne under the supervision of Professor Moss, is listed among Australia’s top 40 young researchers. His research includes integrated neurotrophic optics, microcombs and microwave photonics.

This is the third year that The Australian and research analytics firm League of Scholars have worked together to publish the Research magazine.

League of Scholars compiles information on the world’s research papers, including authorship, when papers were published, where they were published and numbers of citations.

In each of the 255 fields the publication names the Australian-based researcher whose papers published in the 20 top journals in their field in the past five years have had the most citations by other researchers.
