KUCHING – Swinburne Sarawak Green Club celebrated World Cleanup Day by hosting three presentations on marine issues by Green Club Exco members and a speaker from the Sarawak Eco-Warriors on Google Meet on 19 September.
Swinburne students, staff and members of the public came together to listen to presentations on ‘Marine Litter and Its Impact’ by Darren Sim and ‘Actions to Stop Marine Litter’ by Aaron Mok.
Special guest speaker Mark Liao Jun, a Swinburne alumnus, founding member and president of the Sarawak Eco-Warriors and conservationist spoke on ‘Beach Cleanups in Kuching’.
Liao encouraged the audience to be proactive about cleaning up their local communities and to join Sarawak Eco-Warriors on their regular beach cleanups.
Due to conditions under the pandemic and movement control order (MCO), the beach cleanups have had to be put on hold.
However, participants were encouraged to practice eco-friendly habits at home. As Swinburne Sarawak Green Club’s motto goes: Conservation starts at home.
