Swinburne Sarawak holds webinar entitled ‘Technology within Your Reach’

KUCHING – A webinar titled ‘Technology within Your Reach’ was held via Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ Facebook page on 28 January, drawing more than 850 unique views.

This was part of a webinar series done by Swinburne Sarawak.

Dr Valliappan Raman, Deputy Head of the School of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), started the webinar by stressing the importance and role of technology in the world today, especially in this pandemic era.

He then proceeded to give an overview and explained the differences between ICT courses (Bachelor of ICT and Bachelor of Computer Science) and ICT majors in Swinburne Sarawak. These courses were further elaborated on with regard to the skills trained.

In addition, Dr Valliappan shared about the lab facilities and prestigious partners Swinburne has partnered with such as Keysight, Techforte and CISCO. He also spoke of the final year project partners where students can create impactful projects for industry partners.

Next, he invited two alumni from the School of ICT, Aylwin Sim and Eshan Shafeeq, to speak. Both of them shared on the key strengths of learning in Swinburne, which has a strong balance of hands-on and theoretical knowledge.

Both alumni speakers touched on their reasons for choosing the Bachelor of Computer Science. The main reasons were related to interests they had at a younger age such as applications and coding. They then proceeded to speak about how practical experience during projects helped them prepare for their current careers.

Sim and Eshan also pointed out the high market demand and importance placed on specialisations such as IoT, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity that are offered by Swinburne Sarawak’s School of ICT.
