Twenty-two students participated in the “Creative Writing Workshop” organised by the School of Foundation Studies and Swinburne Sarawak Library in conjunction with the launch of the annual Swinburne Creative Writing Competition.
Senior lecturer and competition judge Dr Christina Yin ran the workshop, explaining the elements of a short story and then presenting three prompts to inspire the participants to write a flash fiction story during a 20-minute writing session. At the end of that time, two students offered their stories to be “workshopped”. The Swinburne Creative Writing Competition was launched on 20 September, with video clips from Ir Prof Lau Hieng Ho, Pro Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Su Sueh Ing, Head, School of Foundation Studies, Adeline Ho, Manager, Swinburne Library and participants of past Creative Writing Competitions encouraging students to take part. Students can submit up to two short stories before 29 October. The top three writers receive cash prizes while the first-place writer will share his or her story at the online prize-giving, followed by a conversation with the writers of the top three stories.
