Design students to take on Sarawak Tourism Board project

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus continues to expand its industry links with the signing a memorandum of understanding with the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), recently.

The MoU will see undergraduate design students from the Australian branch university campus working with STB on their Capstone projects.

The project will integrate the student’s academic study with work experience in the areas of new web technologies, mobile solutions and apps, games and post production videos.

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Swinburne Sarawak Professor Anthony Cahalan said that the university was pleased to collaborate with STB on mutually beneficial activities in the field of multimedia and software with the attachment of students to the government agency.

“It will be another opportunity for our students to hone their skills and gain experience in their career aspirations,” he said.

Cahalan said the university view industry collaborations seriously, with the hope that its students will have the chance to apply what they learn and gain from the industry experience.

“I am confident too that STB will have much to benefit from the contribution of these innovative and creative students in its campaigns to promote Sarawak both domestically and abroad,” he said.

The MoU was signed between Cahalan and STB Chief Executive Officer Dato Rashid Khan at the STB Office at the Yayasan Sarawak Building.

Rashid said STB was proud to provide a platform for interns as well as to obtain practical experience and new skills in their field of study.

“Over the years, many local universities and those from abroad have been actively sending their students to us,” he said, adding that internships were structured based on the needs of the organisations.

Rashid also urged businesses to collaborate with local institutions of higher learning to provide opportunities for interns.
