Bubur lambuk is much more than just a hearty meal – it’s a symbol of warmth, generosity and togetherness, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. This flavourful porridge made with rice, meat and an aromatic medley of spices brings people together in the spirit of community and compassion.

At Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, this special dish takes on an even deeper meaning during the Ramadan season, serving as a bridge for staff and students from diverse cultural backgrounds to unite in giving and sharing.

On 14 March 2025, the Swinburne Sarawak community came together to celebrate the spirit of giving with a meaningful bubur lambuk distribution event.

The occasion wasn’t just about sharing a tasty meal – it was a chance for everyone to experience and embrace a beloved Malaysian tradition. As the bubur lambuk was distributed, staff and students united in the true spirit of Ramadan, embodying a sense of community and togetherness.

Organised by the Swinburne Sarawak Staff Recreational Club as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, the event saw 700 packs of delicious bubur lambuk shared among the university community and three local non-governmental organisations (NGOs): Sarawak Society for the Blind, Sarawak Cheshire Home and PERKATA Special School.

Kunyap-Kunyap, one of the university’s Food Hall operators, catered the meal, adding their special touch to the event.

Meanwhile, members of Swinburne Sarawak Staff Recreational Club along with Club Advisor Ms Andrea Sim visited each of the NGOs to personally deliver the packs of bubur lambuk.

“We aspire to perform good deeds during this holy month of Ramadan and seek blessings, no matter how small the act of kindness may be,” said Ms Nurlida Mohamad Salleh, President of Swinburne Sarawak Staff Recreational Club.

“We hope to be able to do more CSR activities in the future through our club,” she added.

Ms Carmen Chai, Vice President of Swinburne Sarawak Staff Recreational Club, also shared her thoughts, remarking, “The event was a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day. Seeing the smiles we brought to everyone’s faces made the whole experience truly rewarding for our club.”

This CSR initiative is part of Swinburne Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to bring a positive impact to both the campus and the wider community. It reflects the university’s core values of community, compassion and social responsibility, demonstrating a commitment to fostering meaningful connections and contributing to the greater good through thoughtful actions and support.
