192 Swinburne Sarawak students get more than RM430,000 in scholarships

KUCHING – A total of RM432,125 in scholarships was awarded to 192 top students of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus during a ceremony at its campus here on 13 May, 2009.

The scholarships, categorized as Entrance, Leadership and Merit, were presented to the recipients by Tuan Haji Mortadza Bin Haji Alop, Deputy Director, Sarawak Education Department, on behalf of Dr Haji Julaihi Bin Haji Bujang, Director of Sarawak Education Department.

Professor Helmut Lueckenhausen, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Swinburne Sarawak Campus, also presented the awards.

Entrance scholarships, which are awarded to new foundation and undergraduate students who had obtained good SPM and STPM results, saw a total of 109 recipients.

Three new students, who had achieved good results and were actively involved in extra-curricular activities while in secondary school, were presented with Leadership scholarships.

A total of 80 students who scored high distinctions and distinctions in the various diploma, foundation and undergraduate courses, were awarded the Merit scholarships.

Among those present at the ceremony were parents and families of the scholarship recipients and school principals. The heads of schools and heads of departments of the university were also in attendance.

Students of Swinburne Sarawak Campus are also eligible for JPA and Tunku Abdul Rahman as well as Daiken Scholarship awards. Last year, 16 received JPA scholarships, two were awarded Tunku Rahman scholarships while one diploma of electronic engineering student was presented with the Daiken Scholarship award.
