Swinburne Sarawak a signatory in state’s software industry initiative

KUCHING – The Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and two other parties.

Witnessed by YB Datuk Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Sarawak, the MoU pave the way for the signatories to establish the Sarawak chapter of the Malaysian Software Testing Hub (MSTH). The chapter is expected to take the lead in promoting and planning, as well as facilitate the execution of activities that are aligned to MSTH initiative. This is in tandem with MSTH’s objective of transforming Malaysia into a destination of choice for outsourced software testing services.

“Swinburne has a well-established research centre in software analysis and testing, and also is offering undergraduate elective unit Software Testing and Reliability. With this MoU, Swinburne Sarawak extends its contribution to the ICT industry in Sarawak to produce a bigger ecosystem of local ICT industry to include software testing and benchmarking on top of existing segments in requirement engineering, software development and software implementation,” said Dr Patrick Then, Swinburne’s Team Lead.

This ecosystem facilitates marketability of local software product to the international market that in turn creates more job opportunities in the ICT industry, he added. This also opens the opportunity for university such as Swinburne Sarawak to be independent software testing centre in near future.

Swinburne Sarawak was represented by its Director Academic, Associate Professor Enn Ong while MSTH was represented by its president, Mastura binti Abu Samah.
