Associate Professor Jonathan Newton, Undergraduate TESOL Programme Director from the Victoria University of Wellington, will be giving a public talk entitled “The teacher speaks: Making classroom talk count for learning.”
Time: 1.30pm – 4.45pm
Venue: G705/Auditorium
RSVP: Dayang Norasikin Abang Talhata (ntalhata@swinburne.edu.my, +6082-260744)
This talk is open to all educators, teacher trainees and the general public.
The talk will explore five ways to make talks more effective for engaging learners, as well as to stimulate thinking and promote learning. These include how (and when) to give oral feedback, and how to model and engage learners in groups and whole class instruction. These skills and strategies have been shown to be highly effective for teaching from early childhood to tertiary contexts and in teaching subjects from Mathematics to Science to English.
