My journey with Swinburne Sarawak began when I took up a bachelor’s degree. At the time, we had a very small class with about five students, and I believe we were one of the first batches studying computer science. After my bachelor’s degree, I went on to pursue a master’s and doctoral degree. Throughout my studies, I was lucky to have been mentored by various accomplished individuals. One of whom is Professor Patrick Then, the current Head of School (ICT), who provided me with a lot of encouragement over the years. He first taught me during the second year of my degree, and then all the way until the accomplishment of my doctorate. While conducting my higher degree research, there were some difficult moments where I felt the desire to halt my studies. Despite that, the continuous support from various people within and outside the university allowed me to overcome those boundaries.
Today, I am a lecturer who enjoys teaching as well as doing research and development. The experience in my educational pathway have opened up many opportunities, some of which I had never thought possible. The outputs from my research have enabled me to travel abroad and present knowledge that was cultivated over my years with the university. One such opportunity that I was fortunate to undertake, was to present my work on artificial intelligence at the first European Society of Cardiology Digital Summit in Tallinn, Estonia. Apart from research, involvement in industrial projects have also given me the chance to understand and address real-world issues. This has further motivated me in the pursuit of creating solutions to solve problems within Sarawak and throughout the world.
Although I have spent much of my time within the confines of the university, my world has been constantly expanding. For that, I am certainly grateful for the people I have met along the way, and for my Swinburne Sarawak journey.
