Professor John Wilson

Welcome from Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer

Welcome to Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus located in the beautiful city of Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak, Malaysia.

Swinburne Sarawak is a very successful partnership established in 2000 between Swinburne University of Technology in Australia and the State Government of Sarawak, and this year, we are celebrating our 20th anniversary – “Celebrating 20 years in education and research excellence in Sarawak”. We are very proud that throughout 20 years, we have produced over 7000 graduates, contributed over RM2.0 Billion into the Sarawak economy and annually, we contribute to the employment of around 1000 people.

Currently, we have around 3500 students (80% local) with an aspiration to grow to around 5000 students over the coming years. We have a tagline, ‘Kuching, Melbourne or both’, which means students can obtain their internationally recognised Swinburne degree studying at either or both campuses, depending on the price point and life experiences being sought.

We specialise in the fields of Business, Design, Engineering, Computer Science, Biotechnology and English Language and teach in a very student focussed approach using the latest technologies. Our courses are industry focussed and practical, and our graduates are in high demand with over 90% employability rates. We pride ourselves on graduating forward thinking ‘T-Professionals’ who have both the technical depth in their respective disciplines and the professional breadth skills including creativity, critical thinking, collaborative and communication skills that are vital for the fast changing 21st century work place.

Our international students come from over 40 countries and this contributes to our campus’s multicultural background and vibrancy. In today’s global and all-inclusive economy, it is a priceless advantage for all our students to interact with a global cohort and in itself is a hugely important component of their education.

Swinburne’s 16.5 acre Sarawak city campus is centrally located with easy access to lifestyle, healthcare, transport and commercial hubs which makes it an exciting place for university life. Complemented by the vast, natural beauty of Borneo, Kuching is a rapidly growing cosmopolitan city that is shaped by a unique blend of sophisticated development and cultural appreciation. As part of our 20th anniversary, we are undergoing a RM50 million campus transformation to further improve the student experience and ensuring ‘world class’ facilities for teaching, research, student life and on-campus accommodation for our students.

Swinburne Sarawak is a place where you will feel comfortable, engaged and stimulated and we look forward to welcoming you to the campus for an experience of a lifetime and graduating with an internationally recognised degree from one of the world’s top 400 universities.
