I joined about six months after the establishment of Swinburne Sarawak. There was a buzz in Kuching, set against the backdrop of another Australian University in Miri and the feeling that we were going to have that in Kuching as well. The fact that Swinburne Sarawak was set up by Yayasan Sarawak and the State Government to actually fulfill the dream of Sarawakians for higher education was a very strong call for me. I had to go to West Malaysia for my higher education and Yayasan Sarawak was, my sponsor at that time. I felt that, if there was an opportunity, I should help fellow Sarawakians to fulfill this dream too.
The most significant change in this place in the last 20 years is the people. Now we are stronger. We have a stronger team and staff profile to do the things that we want to do, be it in courses that we offer or in research and innovation. The progress that I see in people is the biggest inspiration, both in those who have come in, and even those who have moved on to other chapters. This is such an inspirational place and it has been a very inspiring journey for me.
