As Swinburne Sarawak turns 20 this year, it is also a personal milestone for me as my journey with Swinburne Sarawak turns 10 years.
When I joined the university, the first unit (subject) I taught was Financial Planning and Investment. The number of students enrolled for this unit was overwhelming. With the encouragement and support of the Faculty Dean, each year I facilitated and brought students to participate in various inter-university competitions up to the national level and being known externally.
My fondest memory was when our Accounting and Finance students won Top Five in the Final Round of the Permodalan National Berhad 1 Malaysia Investment Quiz under the University Category at National Level in 2017. It was a great success.
I will always remember offering my suit jacket to one of my students so that he looked presentable and outstanding on stage. After all, he was representing a prestigious university. After receiving the award, he asked if I was proud of him. Spontaneously, I said, “I am proud of all of you, students!” and hugged him.
I have been working under different leadership styles with various approaches as part of the effort to take us to a higher level. I look forward to do my part in strengthening the whole team, working together and contributing from all angles, and ensuring that everyone is moving together into the right direction.
Nurturing and sharing our knowledge and experiences with people around us, especially students and staff, are the most satisfying tasks. Almost every day at the university, we exchange ideas and learn new things in life. Swinburne Sarawak, you are my home.
