The Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) FECS subcommittee of Swinburne Sarawak had embarked on an effort to digitize the way workplace safety inspections were carried out, with the assistance of the School of Information and Communications Technologies. The formerly clerically-heavy task has since been superseded by the Workplace Inspection Application since its completion in June 2020.
The web-based mobile app was developed by a team of Final Year Project students Zaid Jamshaid, Kueh Hang Zhen and Nigel Goh, supervised by Head of School – Computing Prof. Patrick Then and SoICT Lecturer – Ms. Fu Swee Tee.
The application was a means to simplify the inspection and reporting process such as capturing the inspection details through the use of mobile devices. It also provides a centralized platform to keep track of inspection details across different quarters of the year as well as present insights through graph and charts.
The two-semester long project has seen the student team progress and grow through real-life engagement with clients, adapt to dynamic software development challenges and harness tools of the trade, rapidly gearing them up to enter the industry.
