In spite of the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the determination of the Rotaract Club of Swinburne Sarawak to help the community was recently recognized with six awards at the annual Rotary and Rotaract District Award ceremonies.
It won the “Best Rotaract Club Project (Gold)” award for its “Project Uplift” at the online District 3310 Rotary Awards on 23 May. The project, a donation drive to provide food staples to 30 families in Kota Samarahan affected by flash floods early this year, saw Swinburne students, lecturers, and Interact Clubs of SMJK Kuching High, SM Sains Kuching, and Lodge International, and companies contributing essential items via contactless drop-offs and virtual grocery orders.
On 12 June, the club was virtually presented with five Rotaract District Awards: District Best Community Service Project (Gold) for “Project Uplift”; District Best Professional Development Project (Silver) for “Coding for Beginners”; District Outstanding Rotaractor of the Year for Ryan Yap (Service Projects Director); District Merit Award for Rotaract District Conference; and District Best Social Media Award (Cycle 1 – Oct – Dec 2020).
The Club, part of Rotary District 3310 comprising Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, Johor, Malacca, Singapore, and Brunei, was one of the main winners of the night with its efforts for the past year acknowledged by many.
