SMK Lutong alumni debaters dubbed “Friends” comprising Roderic Thang Wen Bin, Daphne Yeo Lok Yin and Bong Sin Yi, won the third Swinburne Sarawak Debate Open with four wins, zero losses, and total speaker scores of 1,064.
The school’s Form 5 students of Ryan Tan Lai En, Anisha Praveen and Tan Wei Shuen, took the 1st runner-up while its Form 2 students of Ryan Foh Jing Yee, Kalpana A/P Murugayah and Andrea Ong Li Wei were 2nd runner-up.
Winners Thang, Yeo and Bong had won the 2020 Swinburne Sarawak Inter-School Debating Championship (SSIDC) while Form 5 students Ryan Tan Lai En, Anisha and Wei Shuen made it to the SSIDC semi-final this year.
Mohamad Zulfadhli Ahmad Sobri of Universiti Teknologi Petronas was the best speaker of the tournament.
Fourteen teams, including those from Perak and Kedah, and from Miri, Bintulu and Kuching in Sarawak took part in the online Swiss style debate tournament.
