The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) cross-disciplinary academic team led by Shella Georgina Beatrice successfully conducted a workshop for students and school teachers from 14 April to 17 May.
It involved 255 students and teachers from 15 primary schools in Serian District.
The workshop was to develop critical thinking skills of students in applying science knowledge, mathematics techniques and English language through activity-based learning. It was also to enhance students’ interest in STEAM and to help them become self-directed learners via interactive educational workshops.
Teachers were trained to conduct STEAM activities through the “Train the Trainer Workshop”.
The facilitators for the activities included Dr Tan Vie Ming, Dr Yii Kwang Jing, Dr Irine Runnie Henry Ginjom, Dr Ling Chui Ching, Esther John Perry, and School of Foundation Studies Head, Su Sueh Ing.
The grant for the education program was awarded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research (MESTR, Sarawak Ministry under Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong.
The closing ceremony was on 23 June 2021.
