Introducing one of the first in South East Asia to help decrease the spread of COVID-19, a Patient Under Investigation (PUI) temperature monitoring system using IOT technology was introduced by Swinburne’s Centre for Digital Futures Director, Prof Dr Patrick Then.

The system encompasses the use of a wearable temperature patch that can be used remotely with a monitoring application that has dashboard interface providing valuable analytics for the authorities. Supporting a light and sleek frame of just 7.2 grams with dimensions 41 mm x 61 mm, the temperature patch has high usability on top of its feature of running on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) network.

This initiative was also well received by state government leaders where Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian commented “This is the very spirit, the solidarity and the extraordinary effort that all Sarawakians come together to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.”


The temperature patch to be worn by Covid-19 PUIs that sends out an alert to the monitoring authorities if a person’s body temperature reaches a certain threshold.
