20 firms to take part in Swinburne Sarawak’s third Careers and Employment Fair

KUCHING –A total of 20 organisations from a range of industries will take part in a career and employment fair organised by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus to be held this Wednesday. (Eds: 20 July, 2011)

The event brings together organisations from the private and public sectors, and serves as a platform for fresh graduates to explore career opportunities with potential employers.

They include Naim Cendera Sdn Bhd, Weida (M) Bhd, Sanmina-SCI Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd, Public Mutual Bhd, Ernst & Young, Press Metal Sdn Bhd, Tokuyama Malaysia Sdn Bhd, SAINS, Shin Yang Group and Capacity Building for Graduates Sarawak of the CM’s Office.

As the participating organisations will be receiving job applications and conducting interviews on the day, graduates are advised to bring along copies of the relevant documents.

Visitors may also attend a briefing by Sunny Nah Khai Guan from the Specialist Intake and Internship Department from the Financial Sector Talent Enrichment Program (FSTEP) at 10.30am. He will give a briefing on FSTEP and how graduates can apply for the program.

Jason Lo, Chief Executive Officer of Tune Talk Sdn Bhd, will speak on a “Rock ‘n’ Roll attitude towards your career” at 1.40pm.

“We started the careers and employment fair in 2008 as a project to help our graduates to kick start their career,” said Esty Sharkawi, Assistant Manager for Student Services at Swinburne Sarawak.

“However, we felt that graduates and students from other institutions could also benefit from it. So as part of our service to the community, we have invited them to come to the fair,” she said, adding that invitations had been sent out to Unimas, UiTM, Politeknik, Kolej Komuniti Kuching, Institut Kemahiran Mara Kuching, Institut Latihan Perindustrian Kota Samarahan, Institut Kemahiran Islam Malaysia Sarawak, Unitar and Pusat Latihan Pembangunan Belia.

“We have also invited students simply because this is a chance for them to find out or learn what employers look for in candidates besides having the appropriate qualification. It will in turn help them prepare for their own career,” Esty said.

This is the third time Swinburne Sarawak is organising the event and to date this year’s is the biggest in terms of the number of companies taking part.

“Yes, this is a record for us but we hope to go even bigger next year,” Esty said, and added that fresh graduates and organisations have much to gain from the event as it is a chance for them to explore career opportunities and fulfil their human resource needs, respectively.
