Meet 20 employers at Sarawak Career & Internship Fair this 30 October

KUCHING – Prospective employees particularly fresh graduates who are currently seeking employment are invited to attend the Sarawak Career and Internship Fair on 30 October.

Organised by the Student Engagement unit of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, the one-day event will be held from 10am to 4pm at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Swinburne’s campus at Jalan Simpang Tiga. It is open to all students from institutions of higher learning in Kuching and other parts of Sarawak.

20 employers are expected to take part in the event including Sarawak Energy, CPA Australia, Ernst & Young, LONGi Kuching, Firerock, MMI, Platform Hospitality Group, Keyence, Top Glove and LSEG Malaysia Sdn Bhd. They represent various industries such as energy and manufacturing, accounting, insurance, asset management, investment, healthcare and hospitality.

The biannual Career and Internship Fair serves as a platform for prospective employees to explore suitable job opportunities with potential employers and gain insights into the companies’ background. It also provides them the chance to speak directly to the respective employers and find out more about their expectations in hiring the ideal candidates.

Furthermore, current students who are seeking for internship placements or training programmes to fulfill their course requirements can personally enquire with the employers. Several companies might offer on-the-spot applications and also conduct face-to-face interviews.

Graduates are advised to bring along copies of their resume and relevant certificates or transcripts for application purposes.

Manager of Swinburne’s Student Central of the Student Engagement unit Ruhazlina Syam Abdol Hazis commented that this event is timely as current graduates can establish their professional network with different employers.

“A few of the employers recruit our graduates on the spot, while others conduct preliminary interview to gauge if the students’ qualifications and personality match a particular job,” said Ruhazlina.

Swinburne actively connects its students and students from other institutions of higher learning with industry players to assist them in gaining employment. The university’s partnership with JobStreet.com for example, helps students to understand the job market better based on data collected and published by Jobstreet.com.

In addition, Swinburne conducts Graduate Tracking to gather data on its graduate employability rates within six months of graduation. Over the last few years, the university has recorded graduate employability rates of more than 90% and in several business and engineering programmes, a 100% graduate employment rate.

Swinburne is a world-class and globally ranked Australian university with campuses across Melbourne and in Kuching. It offers courses at the foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels in business, design, engineering, computing and science.

The courses offered at the Malaysian campus are identical to those of the home campus. As a result, Swinburne graduates are awarded the same Australian qualification that allows for broader recognition and better employment opportunities around the world.

The university also provides students with the opportunity to undertake relevant work placements as part of their university degree and maintains close relationships with industry partners to ensure the courses offered are aligned with the future needs of the industry.
