New postgraduate management programme starts this month

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus will start a new postgraduate management program next month.

The Master of Management, which commences on 23 August, is a general management qualification that is open to those who already have a first degree in any discipline.

”The Master of Management is designed to equip the student with in-depth knowledge and skills he or she needs in key managerial functions. This includes skills such as communication, teamworking, strategic thinking and leadership applicable in the workplace apart from the knowledge in various business functions such as finance, marketing, human resource management, business development, strategic direction and corporate governance,” said Professor Debiprasad Dash, Head of the School of Business and Design.

The program will develop in students the skills to analyse business situations through the use of concepts and frameworks from different areas of management.

“This is besides the capacity to formulate strategic responses that take into account the contemporary social, economic and regulatory environment of business,” said Professor Dash.

He added that the program, to be taught by an international team of highly qualified scholars with doctoral degrees and professional experience, could be completed in one-and-the-half years on a full-time or part-time basis.

“More people are taking up or considering taking up postgraduate studies as the job market and career advancement opportunities become increasingly competitive,” Professor Dash said, adding that the Master of Management is a way towards career advancement as it gives graduates a wider range of options and enables them to assume managerial roles with confidence.

The program is already generating considerable interest among working adults. The university said those who have shown interest so far are mostly in middle management and senior management levels.
