KUCHING –A senior academic from the National University of Singapore (NUS) will be giving a talk on “Motivating students of English as a second and foreign language” at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus this Sunday (24 February, 2013).
Dr Jessie Teng Sze Mei, Associate Director (Administration) of the Centre for English Language Communication (CELC) at NUS, will share her ideas and experiences from her own teaching, as well as those from various research studies related to the topic.
The one-hour session will start at 3.30pm and teachers of English from institutions and schools are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served after the talk for discussion and networking.
Teng, who has lectured at the CELC for the past 16 years, has taught various English language proficiency courses, writing courses and communication skills courses for science and computing undergraduates, as well as graduate students majoring in business and law.
Her students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and nationalities, including those from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Germany, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, the USA, and Vietnam.
She has also taught courses on oral presentation skills and grammar for the workplace to university administrative staff.
