Swinburne University of Technology has further cemented its international reputation, having been ranked for the second consecutive year in the top 450 universities in the world by the QS World University Rankings.
With an estimated 15,000 universities world wide, this latest ranking puts Swinburne in the top three per cent of universities in the world.
This result comes amid a flurry of recognition for the university’s excellence in research, learning and teaching. In the past month Swinburne has been:
- named one of the top 500 research universities in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities – one of only four universities in Victoria to make the list.
- named one of the top 100 universities in the world in the field of physics research by theAcademic Ranking of World Universities – one of only three universities in Australia to make the list.
- rated the best university in Melbourne for graduate satisfaction by the 2012 Good Universities Guide.
- rated the best university in Melbourne for teaching quality by the 2012 Good Universities Guide.
- rated the best university in Victoria for producing graduates with generic skills by the 2012 Good Universities Guide.
According to Vice-Chancellor Professor Linda Kristjanson, this latest result consolidates Swinburne’s position as an internationally recognised university, for both research excellence and quality education.
“Swinburne continues to receive accolades on the world stage,” she said. “This latest achievement reinforces our place as a leading higher education institution.
“We have been awarded outstanding ratings from a range of organisations, which all use different assessments and methodologies. This proves that we live up to our reputation, under any measure.”
The QS Rankings are based on a global survey of academic and employer reputation, research citations, student-staff ratios, and assessments of internationalisation.
