Swinburne lecturer’s creative nonfiction work published by the Australasian Association of Writing Programs

KUCHING – Swinburne Sarawak’s senior lecturer Dr Christina Yin’s creative nonfiction work ‘The Seventh Day’ has been published in The Incompleteness Book II, officially launched on 26th November 2021 at the Australasian Association of Writing Programs (AAWP) Symposium.

Yin was one of nine writers chosen to read her flash nonfiction piece live at the online launch. Comments from AAWP members included: “Such beautiful and important writing” and “A moving eulogy.”

A call for stories and poetry went out to AAWP members one year after The Incompleteness Book was published, a response from writers and poets to the COVID-19 pandemic. Yin’s ‘Time Zones’ was published in the first book last year, while the second book is a reflection one year on into the pandemic and looking forward to the future.

Each piece was limited to 400 words only. Yin’s story was a creative nonfiction piece touching on the different members of her family isolating around the world as the pandemic spread, namely in Glasgow, Iowa City, Petaling Jaya, and Kuching. The Seventh Day speaks of loss, resilience and hope, one year later.

Established in 1996, the annual AAWP conference is now the most important forum in Australia for the discussion of all aspects of teaching creative and professional writing and for debating current theories on creativity and writing. The 2021 conference has been postponed until 2022 due to pandemic conditions in Queensland where it was to have taken place. The one-day symposium was organised to ensure that the AGM of the AAWP could take place and The Incompleteness Book II could be officially launched.
