The Times Higher Education has ranked Swinburne University of Technology as one of the top 100 most international universities in the world.
The ranking recognises the diversity of Swinburne’s students and the extent to which its academics collaborate with international colleagues.
Coming in at number 82 on the list, Swinburne was the third highest ranked university in Melbourne, behind Monash University and University of Melbourne.
Ms Sarah Graham, Acting Vice-President (International and Students), said the ranking was an indication of the university’s commitment to building meaningful international connections.
‘Swinburne welcomes its inclusion in the top 200 most international universities.
‘We are proud to have strong partnerships and agreements with universities in Asia, North America, South America and Europe. We work with them closely to create education and research opportunities that will create long-lasting outcomes.
‘We also have a large, vibrant international student cohort at Swinburne and their diverse life experiences create a learning environment that is beneficial to all of our students and staff.’
Some of the ways Swinburne fosters international collaboration include:
- The Global Leadership Program
Students can undertake a postgraduate double degree from Swinburne and Boston’s Northeastern University. The course is delivered at Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus by academics from Swinburne and Northeastern.
- The Keck telescope
Swinburne has a remote operations facility in Melbourne that allows astronomers to remotely control the Keck telescopes in Hawaii, 9000 kilometres away. This is the farthest distance from which a telescope of this class has been remotely controlled in real time and is the only such Keck facility outside the United States.
- The Swinburne Design Factory
Swinburne is the only university in Australia to be part of the Design Factory Global Network. The Design Factory allows students to work on real- life projects with interdisciplinary teams around the world and features ‘always on’ live video links to global partner universities to facilitate global interactions in real-time.
- Swinburne’s Sarawak Campus
Swinburne has a fully operational campus in Sarawak, Malaysia with about 4000 students from 60 different countries.
