One of the objectives of these workshops was to promote community participation in the first Sarawak Combat Against Cardiovascular Disease Cartoon and Doodle Art Competition 2022 hosted by Swinburne Sarawak in collaboration with the Sarawak Heart Foundation (SHF). The competition is organised in conjunction with World Heart Day, which is celebrated annually on 29 September.

“These workshops aim to support our university’s initiatives on knowledge transfer to the community in collaboration with SHF. It is part of our social responsibility that this project can produce the transfer of lifelong knowledge that impacts a positive change on the community benefitting from the workshops and our initiatives,” said Elizabeth Voong, Associate Dean (External Engagement & Impact) from Swinburne Sarawak’s Faculty of Business, Design and Arts.

“I believe that these workshops will provide valuable learning experience to students and that they encourage students to be more confident in themselves leading their passion in art and design,” said Rosedelina Mustapha, workshop facilitator and Graphic Design lecturer from the School of Design and Arts, Swinburne Sarawak. Rosedelina was assisted by two talented doodle artists, Helena Goh and Daphaney Wong, during the workshops.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to invite all students studying in Sarawak to participate in this Cartoon and Doodle Art Competition. The competition aims to increase social awareness through the power of art and the closing date for submissions is on 9 September 2022,” said Michael Lee, a Graphic Design lecturer from the School of Design and Arts, Swinburne Sarawak.

The competition has three categories: primary students, secondary students and university or college students. Each category offers cash prizes and certificates of participation, where the first to third prize winners will win RM1,500, RM1,000 and RM500 respectively while 10 consolation prizes of RM100 will be awarded to shortlisted participants.
