Swinburne Sarawak holds first Open Day of 2023

KUCHING – Discover all that Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus has to offer at its first Open Day of the year this Saturday, 14 January 2023.

Taking place from 10am to 4pm at Swinburne Sarawak’s campus, the Open Day is a great way to explore Swinburne Sarawak up close and in person, including finding out about study options, scholarships, facilities, the campus community and more.

Students who are ready to embark on their tertiary education journey can meet one-on-one with academics from the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science, Faculty of Business, Design and Arts and School of Foundation Studies to gain insights into the wide range of courses available at the university as well as their career prospects.

Parents and students can also have a chat with the university’s education counsellors to discuss courses, scholarships, financial assistance, industry placements, accommodation or any relevant queries they may have.

In addition, external financial aid provider Yayasan Sarawak will be present to offer advice and counselling on financial assistance.

A variety of scholarships, bursaries and financial aids are offered by Swinburne Sarawak for foundation, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels of study. Top-performing Malaysian students who enrol in an undergraduate program could even be awarded the Pro-Chancellor Excellence Scholarship, which provides a 100% fee waiver. Students can find out if they are eligible for any scholarships at the Open Day.

In collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak, Swinburne Sarawak also offers the Yayasan Sarawak BP40 Bursary Scheme – a special bursary scheme which allows eligible Sarawakian Bumiputera students to undertake their preferred programs with subsidised tuition fees. Students under the BP40 scheme at Swinburne Sarawak can enjoy tuition fees as low as those at any public universities (IPTA) in Malaysia.

Another highlight of the Open Day is guided campus tours, through which visitors can get a feel of life as a Swinburne Sarawak student. In addition to experiencing the campus first-hand, visitors can catch a glimpse of the comprehensive campus upgrades being carried out in line with Swinburne’s long-term commitment to enhancing the campus experience for students.

Once students have selected their preferred program, they can proceed to apply on the spot at the Open Day. To facilitate this process, prospective students are advised to bring along a copy of their Malaysian identification card or certified copy of their passport, as well as academic transcripts and certificates (SPM, STPM, UEC, O-Level, A-Level and so on). Eligible students applying for admission will receive their Letter of Offer on the same day.

In conjunction with its Open Day, Swinburne Sarawak will also be holding a Program Preview on Quantity Surveying: The Next Gen_Career from 2pm to 2.30pm. This is an opportunity for students to learn more about the dynamic and in-demand Quantity Surveying profession.

Participants who pre-register will receive a RM50 Foodpanda voucher when they attend the Program Preview. Registration can be done at https://bit.ly/bqs-program-preview.

The talk will include an introduction to Quantity Surveying as well as useful insights into the future of five-dimensional Building Information Modeling (5D BIM) and how this will benefit the Quantity Surveying profession.

The session will be delivered by Jeremy Lu Chun Yaw, Lecturer from Swinburne Sarawak’s Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science. Mr Lu received his Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Quantity Surveying from University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in 2016. Subsequently, he received his MSc in Construction Management and Engineering from University of Leeds (UK), focusing on asset management.

Swinburne Sarawak offers the Bachelor of Quantity Surveying (Honours), paving the way for graduates to be leaders in the next generation of innovative construction projects.

The university’s upcoming intake date for Foundation, Diploma and Degree programs is 27 February 2023.
