Swinburne Sarawak IET Student Chapter gets 1st Runner- Up

KUCHING – The Institution of Engineering and Technology Student Chapter (SSIET) of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus was awarded first runner-up for the 2013/2014 by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Malaysia Network.

It was presented with the Student Chapter Award in recognition of its contribution, effort and work done.

Three of its members, Matthew Chai Min Enn, Pau Kiu Hong and Priscilla Toh Wen Hui received the IET Leadership Award in recognition of their leadership skills and contribution to the chapter.

“I am grateful for the cooperation and commitment that the committee members have given this past year. I am also glad to have a group of advisors who are very supportive of our activities.

“The chapter is also grateful for the financial support it has received from Swinburne Sarawak and the Young Professional Section of IET. Without this support, SSIET will not be able to achieve its success today,” said Priscilla Toh, the president of SSIET.

The award is in recognition of the students’ commitment in helping their team unlock their potential in professional development, she added.

Activities such as mentoring and training, as well as networking offer students first-hand experience and real-world exposure to professional engineering, said Dr Chua Hong Siang, one of its advisors and a lecturer with the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science.

The first IET Student Chapter in East Malaysia, SSIET was established in 2010. It is committed in informing, influencing and inspiring the engineering community through their activities, exposing its members to current and global issues while bridging opportunities available in the communities. To date, SSIET have about 70 student members.
