Swinburne Sarawak, Methodist Pilley Institute renew articulation agreement

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and Sibu-based Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) recently renewed an articulation agreement.

An online event to signify the renewal on 15 December was attended by senior officers from both institutions.

Under the agreement, MPI students who have completed diploma programs could enrol into Swinburne’s undergraduate programs in business, design, ICT and computer science with a credit exemption, and they could complete their degree between 18 months and two years.

“It is an attractive arrangement, and we hope to see more students from MPI benefit from this arrangement in the coming years,” said Swinburne Sarawak Pro Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Ir Professor Lau Hieng Ho.

Swinburne Sarawak and MPI first established the articulation arrangement in 2015.

“Since then, many MPI students have enrolled into our degree programs. This is certainly encouraging, and we hope to see a steady growth in the enrolment of MPI students in the future with the renewal of the articulation arrangement,” added Professor Lau.

The renewal will strengthen the relationship between both institutions, said MPI Principal Mr Hii King Kai.

“We are very clear of our purpose and roles to provide a platform for students to have a good education and create a pathway to complete their tertiary education. We also hope eventually to prepare them for their career in the future,” he added.

“MPI is very grateful for the partnership with Swinburne, especially in providing excellent tertiary education for Sarawakians. We make various options available for students to continue their studies, and Swinburne has been a popular choice for them.

“We look forward to more collaboration around curriculum development, other program pathways and research and development,” Mr Hii said, adding that the partnership between Swinburne and MPI will help to produce human capital for Sarawak.

Established in Sibu in 1991, MPI offers higher education in the areas of accounting, taxation, finance, business management, computing, early childhood education, social work, and English.
