Swinburne Sarawak strengthens collaboration with CyberSecurity Malaysia

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, CyberSecurity Malaysia and local company Nex Vision have recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), an important milestone in strengthening collaborative efforts to address the growing challenges in cybersecurity.

This strategic collaboration aims to enhance cybersecurity training and professional examination programs as well as foster joint research initiatives in various cybersecurity domains.

The signing of the MoU took place during a recent visit by a delegation led by CyberSecurity Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Ts Dr Haji Amirudin bin Abdul Wahab to Swinburne Sarawak.

Representing CyberSecurity Malaysia in the signing of the MoU was Dato’ Amirudin, while Swinburne Sarawak was represented by its Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer Ir Professor Lau Hieng Ho and Nex Vision by its Manager Mr Albert Lim Sing.

The MoU signing was witnessed by Sarawak Business Federation President Dato Sri Abang Haji Abdul Karim bin Tun Abang Haji Openg, underscoring the significance of this collaboration for the business community in Sarawak.

Professor Lau expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership and highlighted its timeliness in strengthening the capacity of enterprises and industries in Sarawak.

“The reliance on digital technologies and connectivity in the cyber space has become increasingly prevalent and it is crucial for organisations to enhance their cybersecurity capabilities,” he said.

“Through this collaboration, Swinburne Sarawak, CyberSecurity Malaysia and Nex Vision will combine their expertise to provide comprehensive cybersecurity training and professional examination programs as well as conduct cutting-edge research to address the evolving cyber threats,” he added.

Swinburne Sarawak also announced the appointment of Dato’ Amirudin as an Adjunct Professor in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the field. This appointment will enable Dato’ Amirudin to support the university in postgraduate supervision and research, further enhancing the institution’s capabilities in the cybersecurity domain.

As part of the visit, Dato’ Amirudin addressed the Swinburne community at its Industry-University-Community Connect Series, where he shared insights on emerging global trends in cybersecurity and their impact on skill needs and industry growth in Malaysia. The event provided an excellent opportunity for knowledge exchange and further collaboration among industry experts and academic professionals.

To conclude the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to tour Swinburne Sarawak’s state-of-the-art cybersecurity learning facilities, gaining first-hand experience of the institution’s commitment to providing a world-class learning environment for cybersecurity education.

The collaboration between Swinburne Sarawak, CyberSecurity Malaysia and Nex Vision sets the stage for impactful advancements in addressing cybersecurity in Sarawak. Through their joint efforts, the organisations aim to equip individuals and industries with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the evolving cybersecurity landscape effectively.
