KUCHING – Ten outstanding students of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus have been awarded scholarships totalling RM56,000 through the Rinwood Awards by Rinwood Pelita (Mukah) Plantation Sdn Bhd, paving the way for them to further their studies and broaden their horizons.
The recipients hailed from various secondary schools across Sarawak, including those in Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu and Sarikei. The scholarships were awarded to Hii Wei Bao, Yvone Pang Xin Yi, Erika Fong Sui Zi, Wan Yong Wang Cheng, Bryan Lee Qi Fung, Conney Lau Chui Hung, Florence Sii Wei Ren, Dicky Lau Lih Siong, Taryn Then Kai Xin and Sonia D’laila binti Samsaini.
The scholarships were presented by Mr Hii Wei Wen, Chairman of Rinwood’s Education Unit, during a ceremony held at Swinburne Sarawak on 31 October 2024. Also gracing the event were Mr Charles Tan, Regional Director of Inquota Education Services (IES) Sdn Bhd; Mr Jason Chan, Director of Future Students, Swinburne Sarawak; and Ms Esty Sharkawi, Registrar and Director of Student Engagement, Swinburne Sarawak.
This scholarship program highlights Rinwood’s dedication to empowering young talent, particularly those from the B40 group, by providing high-achieving secondary school students with access to tertiary education through the Rinwood Academic Merit Scholarship.
Addressing the audience at the ceremony, Mr Hii emphasised Rinwood’s commitment to shaping a brighter tomorrow by investing in Sarawak’s youth.
“We believe that supporting young talent is essential to shaping a brighter tomorrow, and we are dedicated to providing opportunities for promising students across Sarawak, especially those from the B40 group.
“To our scholarship recipients, we wish you a rewarding and memorable journey through university. Embrace every experience, and may the knowledge and insights you gain inspire you to give back and uplift your communities in the future,” he said.
In his speech, Mr Chan thanked Rinwood on behalf of the university for their generosity and commitment to supporting education and growth for Sarawakian youths.
“These scholarships do more than just open doors to higher education; they provide hope, encouragement and the promise of a brighter future for each student. To these 10 recipients, we are immensely proud of you and excited to see what you will accomplish,” he remarked.
Scholarship applications for the next cycle of the Rinwood Awards are now open, with a deadline set for 30 June 2025. Eligible students, including SPM, STPM and diploma holders with strong academic records, are encouraged to apply.
The Rinwood Awards are open to all new Sarawakian students enrolled full-time in an eligible pre-university foundation, diploma, professional course, undergraduate degree or postgraduate coursework degree program in 2025.
