Swinburne Sarawak to hold Open Day events on 26 March and 2 April

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ Open Day events on 26 March and 2 April are a great way to gain first-hand information on Australian education, financial assistance, campus facilities and more. 

Both Open Day events will be held from 10am to 4pm at Swinburne Sarawak campus along Jalan Simpang Tiga. Open to members of the public, it is targeted at SPM, STPM, O-Level, A-Level and UEC school-leavers seeking an affordable Australian tertiary education closer to home. 

Those who are ready to take the next step in their education will have the opportunity to meet directly with Swinburne Sarawak’s academic staff from the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science; Faculty of Business, Design and Arts; and School of Foundation Studies to discover the wide range of courses offered by the university. They can also chat with education counsellors to get to know more about courses, financial aid and scholarships. Yayasan Sarawak will also be available during Open Day for financial assistance counselling. In addition, there will be a sharing session on 2 April where students can learn more about the various courses.

For 2022, the University is also introducing new programmes, namely the Diploma of Accountancy, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Software and Bachelor of Quantity Surveying.

Among the highlights of Open Day are guided tours of the campus, during which students can view the highly-anticipated refurbishments being made to enhance campus life. Students can also collect goody bags and complimentary merchandise during Open Day. 

To ease the financial burden of students and their families, there are numerous scholarships available for foundation, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. For instance, top performing students who enrol in an undergraduate programme at Swinburne Sarawak could be awarded the Pro-Chancellor Excellence Full Scholarship, which provides a 100% fee waiver.

Swinburne Sarawak, in collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak, also offers the Yayasan Sarawak BP40 Bursary Scheme – a special bursary scheme for eligible Sarawakian Bumiputera students which allows them enrol into their preferred programmes at foundation, diploma or degree levels with subsidised tuition fees. For students under the BP40 scheme, the total tuition fees at Swinburne Sarawak throughout the duration of their studies are as low as tuition fees at any public universities (IPTA) in Malaysia.

Limited to 100 students a year, the scheme is aimed at alleviating the financial burden of students from low (B40) and middle income (M40) family backgrounds.

Furthermore, once students have successfully obtained the BP40 bursary, they have the option to apply for a Yayasan Sarawak study loan to cover their remaining fees. In addition to this study loan, students will be awarded a living allowance of RM4,000 annually for the duration of their studies. Upon graduation, students who have attained a CGPA of 3.0 and above and 3.5 and above are entitled to 50% and 75% tuition fee rebates respectively.

The University will accept on-the-spot applications during both Open Day events. Those who meet the entry criteria will receive their Letter of Offer from the University on the same day. Prospective students are advised to bring along relevant original documents for on-the-spot application purposes, including their identification card and birth certificate (Malaysian students) or passport (international students), academic transcripts with grading system and English language proficiency test results (MUET, IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent qualification).
