Swinburne Sarawak to hold Open Day on Saturday

KUCHING – Obtain first-hand information on Australian education, financial assistance, student mobility options and more at Swinburne’s Open Day event this Saturday, 12 February.

The event, organised after a lapse of two years due to the pandemic, will be held at Swinburne Sarawak campus, Jalan Simpang Tiga from 10 am to 4 pm. Open to members of the public, it is targeted at SPM, STPM, O Level, A-Level and UEC school-leavers looking to pursue an affordable Australian tertiary education closer to home.

The event provides prospective students with the opportunity to enquire directly with the academic staff from Swinburne’s Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science; Faculty of Business, Design and Arts; and School of Foundation Studies about courses offered by the university.

For 2022, the University is introducing new programmes which will commence in its February intake. These programmes are

  • Diploma of Accountancy
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Software
  • Bachelor of Quantity Surveying.

Top performing students who enrol in a course of study with Swinburne Sarawak could be awarded the Pro-Chancellor Excellence Scholarship, a scholarship that sees students who attained good grades be offered full scholarship covering all tuition expenses. This means students can commence their undergraduate programmes with zero payment.

On top of that, students who graduate with CGPA 3.0 and above, and CGPA 3.5 and above are entitled to 50% and 75% rebates on their loans, respectively.

Swinburne Sarawak is also collaborating with Yayasan Sarawak to offer the BP40 Financial Assistance Scheme. The scheme allows Bumiputera students of Sarawak origin to enrol into their preferred programmes at foundation, diploma, or degree level with fees from as low as the tuition fees at any public universities (IPTA) in Malaysia.

Limited to 100 students a year, the scheme is meant to ease the financial burden of students from low (B40) and middle (M40) income family backgrounds. Furthermore, once students have successfully obtained the BP40 bursary, they have the option to apply for a Yayasan Sarawak loan which gives them a RM4,000 allowance a year.

Swinburne also offers prospective students the opportunity to pay nothing for when they start classes for its February 2022 intake. The Study Now Pay Later (SNPL) scheme enables students to adapt to Swinburne’s blended learning mode of study as well as face-to-face classes, all without the initial financial commitment.

The SNPL scheme offers students the experience of attending lectures for between six to 12 weeks, after which they can pay their tuition fee via a 12-months easy payment plan. Students taking up the SNPL scheme and who are awarded a scholarship will still be able to enjoy the scholarship offered to them by the university, in the second year of their study.

During the Open Day, on-the-spot application is available while those who meet the entry criteria will receive an offer letter on the spot from the university. Prospective students are advised to bring along the following original documents:

  • Identification card and birth certificate (Malaysian students) or passport (international students);
  • Academic transcripts with grading system; and
  • English language proficiency test results (MUET, IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent qualification).

Classes for Degree programmes will commence on 28 February 2022, while classes for Foundation and Diploma commence on 11 April 2022.
