KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus (Swinburne Sarawak) celebrated the conclusion of its highly acclaimed Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Week on 30 November. With the theme “A Slice of Change,” the event marked the university’s monumental dedication to the SDGs, attracting the participation of 23 faculty and staff members, students and esteemed guests.
The event unfolded with expert talks on renewable energy. Featuring the insights from Mukund Narayanamurti, General Manager, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and Ir Dr Hadi Nabipour Afrouzi, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science, the discussion set an informative and engaging tone for the event, which further emphasised the pivotal role sustainable energy has towards achieving the SDGs.

In his welcome speech, Ir Professor Lau Hieng Ho, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer, Swinburne Sarawak, said, “Weida (M) Berhad has been instrumental in demonstrating our university’s resolve to create a positive impact.”
He also commended the participation of Swinburne’s student-led clubs and societies in making the event a success, especially the SDG Carnival.
According to the Organising Chair of the SDG Week and Carnival Ir Dr Angelia Liew, the event aims to turn Sustainable Development Goals into tangible experiences. “It is an opportunity for everyone to engage with these goals in a practical and interactive environment. The carnival is a testament to what can be achieved when academia, industry and the community unite for a shared purpose.”
As a high point of the event, the SDG Carnival was organised to showcase the participation of 18 student-led clubs and societies from Swinburne Sarawak. Featuring interactive booths, SDG-focused projects and creative activities, the carnival managed to capture the spirit of the campus community and its commitment to the SDGs.
