Swinburne’s April 2024 EEP intake celebrates completion of the program

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus is proud to celebrate the successful completion of the English Enhancement Program (EEP) for its April 2024 intake. This record-breaking cohort, comprising 152 students, reflects the growing enthusiasm for academic preparedness among future university students.

Held at Swinburne Sarawak’s campus on 24 May 2024, the EEP Certificate Award Ceremony was attended by the university’s Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer Ir Professor Lau Hieng Ho, members of the university’s Executive Group and parents of the students – celebrating the students’ hard work and dedication throughout the program.

Fully sponsored by Yayasan Sarawak, the EEP is a specially designed four-week program aimed at enhancing students’ English language proficiency while paving the way for a seamless transition into university life. All Sarawakian students who meet the entry requirements can join the program.

In addition to having their EEP tuition fees fully funded, students enrolled in the EEP will receive a one-off RM300 settling-in allowance and free on-campus accommodation throughout the duration of the program.

Upon completing the EEP, students can articulate into a foundation, diploma or degree program at Swinburne Sarawak.

The program is designed to provide a comprehensive and immersive learning experience, where during the mornings, students will focus on enhancing their academic English skills. Afternoons are dedicated to numerous hands-on workshops and projects. These workshops cover topics such as library literacy, laboratory skills and study management skills. Additionally, the Uni Life Experience program offers students valuable exposure to on- and off-campus activities, social engagements and networking events.

Throughout the month-long program, students participated in three educational excursions to the Borneo Cultures Museum, Sarawak State Library (PUSTAKA) and the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building (DUN Sarawak).

The April 2024 cohort expressed positive feedback towards the program. Huan Jia Yee said the program was very informative. “I learned valuable research skills that will benefit my undergraduate studies. Reuniting with my primary school friends was an added bonus, expanding my social network,” said Jia Yee.

If you want to improve your presentation, speaking and report writing skills, Swinburne’s English Enhancement Program is the way to go.”

Lecturer Marione Anne Foo remarked that the April 2024 EEP intake was a significant milestone as it was the largest group enrolled into the program. “It further underscores the students’ keen interest in preparing themselves for university life,” she said.

The language lecturer also shared that engaging with the large intake had been a rewarding experience in teaching and learning. “Since my initial involvement in the program, the overall journey has proven enriching. It is a journey where together we foster our language proficiency and personal growth,” she said.

“Collaborating with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds has presented numerous learning opportunities, including the enhancement of language and communication skills, as well as the development of effective teamwork,” she added.

Marione said that being a part of the EEP experience was truly an inspiring and unforgettable experience for all involved.
