Talk on bacterial retention on superhydrophobic titanium surfaces

KUCHING – A professor from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, will give a talk on bacterial retention on superhydrophobic titanium surfaces at Swinburne Sarawak, on 14 September.

Professor Russell Crawford, who is the Dean at the Faculty of Life and Social Sciences at Swinburne in Melbourne, will give the talk at the lecture theatre of Swinburne Sarawak campus at 12.30pm.

In his research, Professor Crawford and his team have managed to alter titanium surfaces to mimic that of a lotus leaf such that superhydrophobicity was conferred.

Such modification of metallic surfaces is of interest to the local medical implant industry as a means of preventing the likelihood of bacterial infection.

The surface created by the research team was challenged with two pathogenic bacteria and it was found that colonization by one of them was prevented.

The talk is organised by the Research and Consultancy Office of Swinburne Sarawak. Those interested to attend are requested to email to rco@swinburne.edu.my to confirm attendance by 11 September.
