Darren worked in Human Resources for seven years, rising rapidly through the ranks in two companies and obtaining an MBA at the same time. After that he decided the corporate life wasn’t for him. In 2011, he turned in the ‘Employee Handbook’ for a ‘Grammar Textbook’, and started his journey as an academic.
Darren’s interest is in interactive classroom activities and the use of technology in teaching and learning. He completed his Master of Arts in TESOL with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak. He has taught units in the English Enhancement Programme, the Intensive English Program, Diploma program, the Careers in Curriculum Unit, and is currently teaching units in the foundation program.
Besides his teaching duties, Darren has the copy editor for the university’s research magazine, Discover, from 2016 to 2018. He was also the webmaster for the Faculty of Language and Communication (later School of Foundation Studies) from 2016 to 2019. He is the current club adviser for the Swinburne Sarawak Esports Club and the Swinburne Dance Club before that.
