Upgraded Facilities

In line with Swinburne Sarawak’s long-term commitment to enhancing the campus experience for students, the university embarked on a comprehensive campus redevelopment initiative in 2019. The RM50 million campus upgrade project supports Swinburne’s mission of fostering student success, providing students with a world-class teaching and learning environment, and supporting the university’s growing student population.

This upgrading project resulted in the construction and upgrading of 4 key spaces, which are the new Student Hub, a purpose-built Food Hall, the Borneo Atrium that includes an extension to the library, and the upgraded student hostel which has been revamped into the Student Village.

With these upgrades, Swinburne Sarawak will continue to provide a world-class Australian education experience in the heart of Kuching City at affordable fees. Focusing on preparing graduates for the future of work, this upgrading will encourage a flexible and innovative teaching and learning culture, strengthen the university’s research portfolio and position Swinburne as the partner of choice for industry in the region.

Student Hub

With a focus on enhancing student welfare and to encourage a balanced university life, the Student Hub is a student-centric space for the student community to enjoy leisure activities and connect with their friends. The hub houses a large flexible leisure space, a soundproofed music studio, dance studio and multimedia room, as well as sports centre for futsal, volleyball and basketball games. The new sports facilities complement the current Multipurpose Hall which houses a gym, basketball court, badminton courts and squash courts. In addition, the Student Hub offers e-sports facilities which would surely delight e-sports enthusiasts among the student community.

Food Hall

The newly purpose-built two-storey food hall features air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned seating areas, accommodating up to 450 people. The new hall includes 14 food and beverage stalls, a convenience store, and musollah prayer rooms, to serve our diverse community of students and staff on campus.

Student Village

Surrounded by lush landscaping and featuring a streetscape plaza to welcome residents to their new home, the Student Village houses the fully refurbished on-campus student accommodation which is able to accommodate up to 457 students. The Student Village includes laundry facilities, student lounges, a central communal kitchen, recreational space, barbecue facilities, outdoor decking, and a dining hall.

Borneo Atrium

At the heart of the campus is the Borneo Atrium, a unique space for students, staff and community engagement activities, concerts, and bazaars. The atrium is also the central entrance to the library, with escalators leading up to the mezzanine floor, which is an extension of the library known as The Junction – a new 24-hours informal learning space with an added capacity of 392 people. The Junction connects both areas, and offers numerous facilities such as collaborative booths, charging stations, a printing station and varied seating arrangements.
