This lab consists of the basic equipment for conducting laboratory sessions in mechanics of structural and strength of materials programs in mechanical, robotics and mechatronics and civil engineering programs. Most of these facilities include capacity for data acquisition and presentation via computer and students will be required to do the analyses and interpretation of the results. For example, in HES1125 Mechanics of Structure, students are required to carry out a series of experiments using the equipment illustrated below to compare the experimental results and theoretical values of the forces in the trusses under various loadings. Other experiments include, for example, buckling of slender columns, bending and deflection of beams, torsion, combined bending and torsion and many others.
