Everyone knows a little bit about sago in Sarawak. Sago is an edible starch made from sago palm trees. It is a staple food in parts of tropic. In Malaysia, we use it to make our famous Bubur Cha Cha dessert. But how far do you really know this unique plant resource? How can we realize its true potential through biotechnological research and development to produce products from sago?
During the Discover Your Passion webinar series on April 7 organized by Marketing and Student Recruitment and Science Program, Mr. Ivan Ho Bee was invited as guest speaker to talk about sago biotechnology. Mr. Ivan is the Founder and Advisor of Biotechnology Diversified Industries Sdn. Bhd., and Vice President of Malaysia Biomass Industries Confederation. He has been involved in R&D of Sago industry of time exceeded three decades. Presented together during the webinar was Daniel Tan from Science Program, whom had also co-moderated the session together with the Moderator, Elton Hiew. The webinar was attended by 85 viewers, including students and staff from Swinburne University, UNIMAS, UiTM, UPM and IIU, individuals from government agencies, private companies, members of Swinburne Biotechnology Alumni and several civil societies of Sarawak.
